"Starting a love for something beautiful in my business."
My First Wedding
It’s happening, the one thing every new photographer knows will eventually happen…
Someone is going to ask you to photograph their wedding. And praise the Lord, it was Phoebe who asked me.
At the time, I had only been seriously photographing for a few months, and I did not feel ready to photograph a wedding. I’m a bit of a perfectionist (if you haven’t noticed ;), the idea of being responsible for capturing someone’s entire wedding day is a HUGE deal.
But then Phoebe called me.
Her photographer had canceled one month before her wedding.
At that point, I had only been behind the scenes at one wedding, literally just holding the bags for one of my favorite photographers. I had never photographed a wedding myself.
So when Phoebe asked if I would do it, I was incredibly unsure.
But looking back, I can see how God opened every door and made it possible for me to say yes.
So, I did.
Wedding Day
The morning of the wedding, I was so nervous.
But with my mom gathering the prayers of everyone we know (and some) I made my way to the 11 hour wedding day.
I arrived feeling a little overwhelmed, wondering if I was actually ready for this. But once I got my camera out, things started to fall into place.
I got the photos I needed. I knew where I needed to be. I knew what I needed to capture. And by the grace of God, all that nervous energy turned into focus.
And then came the part I never expected, the people.
The guests were incredible.
So many people made an effort be encouraging.
The specific compliments on how I worked, stayed organized, and handled the day, all things I prayed the Lord would enable me to do.
And the crazy part? They hadn't even seen the pictures yet.
At one point, I actually had to step away because all the "wonderfulness" caught up to me and I started crying (and I couldn't stop) I was blown away!
I had been so nervous going into this day, and then having people so clearly be answers to prayer was incredibly overwhelming in the best possible way.
Looking Back
Now, I can look back at that wedding and see it as so much more than just my first wedding.
It was the moment I realized, this is something I can do.
God took something I was incredibly nervous about and gave me the opportunity, the strength, and the confidence to step into it.
I’m still growing, improving, and figuring things out every day. But I’m incredibly thankful that my first wedding was John & Phoebe’s.
They trusted me when I didn't completely trust myself yet, and I will always be grateful for that.
So, all I can say is praise God 100 times over.
This business, this opportunity, and every door that has opened, I know where the glory belongs.
All glory to Him. 🤍📸
